The Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank (QDB) and Silatech, resumed its activities this month by launching the ‘2020 Summer Camp’ online for students aged between 16 and 20 years.
In view of the current circumstances due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the virtual camp aimed to provide the students with an educational environment during summer through optimal use of advanced technologies.
Through innovative approach, Bedaya aimed to help the participants hone their skills and to raise their awareness about entrepreneurship through educational activities and workshops provided via high-quality remote training platforms, while they stay at home.
Due to the current circumstances, Bedaya’s summer camp this year used the Zoom platform, enabling all participants to attend the camp remotely and benefit from the centre’s advisors and coaches.
Special kits were provided to the participants during the diverse interactive workshops and online sessions such as the clay session, the plant care workshop, canvas painting, cooking and embroidery.
The camp also included workshops that sought to develop participants’ business skills and enhance their desire to launch startups in the future, such as session on ‘How to be a technology entrepreneur, ‘How to start a fashion project’, and ‘Creative Thinking’.
Following the completion of the camp, certificates were awarded to the best participants based on their attendance, degree of creativity and project quality.
Abdulla Faleh Al Saeed, board member and acting general manager of Bedaya Center, commented: “We are always keen on supporting our youth by helping them develop their knowledge, skills and experiences in relation to entrepreneurship, encouraging them to develop bold and courageous ideas about their own projects that qualify them to start their life successfully. Through this camp, we aimed to stimulate their capabilities, raise the level of awareness and reduce the gap between them and the actual market, so that they are prepared to realise their dreams and aspirations, which will eventually support the SME sector which is considered an essential tributary in the economic cycle of the country.”
“In line with the endeavours of the State of Qatar and the directives of the Ministry of Public Health to limit the spread of COVID-19 and its impact, the 2020 Summer Camp was held this year online to ensure the provision of a flexible interactive environment to overcome the barrier of time and space, and most importantly, keeping the safety of all participants in mind,” he added.
