The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) representation mission in West Bank and Al-Quds has started distributing food baskets in several Palestinian villages and towns to needy families.
The project, in collaboration with the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), is limited to food baskets due to the coronavirus pandemic. All precautions are taken to ensure the health of workers and beneficiaries.
A total of 3,780 needy families (18,900 people) severely affected by the crisis will receive food baskets. Many needy families have lost their income as markets and businesses are locked down.
Priority is given to families of labourers working in workshops and small enterprises, families of quarantined people in isolated cities, and families registered with the PRCS social assistance programmes.
The total value of the food aid provided by QRCS is $272,700 (nearly QR1 million). Each food basket contains 30kg of food staples such as rice, sugar, tahina, dates, tomato paste, vegetable oil, pasta, freekeh, lentils, noodles, chickpeas, beans, tea and halawa.
PRCS personnel are currently deployed in many villages and towns to deliver food baskets to target groups, in coordination with village and city municipalities and local communities. Special attention is given to day
labourers isolated in quarantine centres.
This is part of the QRCS Ramadan Campaign for 1441 A.H., which involves humanitarian and development projects for the benefit of I million people in 23 countries at a total cost of QR60 million.
